FUR SKINS. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Wool and Stock Journal — 13 January 1899

FUR SKINS. At Wednesday's sales catalogues of very con siderable size were submitted, and at the open ing it became apparent that a slacker demand would have the inevitable e/Iect of depressing values. On account of the large numbers of summ<r skins available up to the end of tho yc.ir, sonic American orders have been com plelud, atid prices for the r-maindor of tho warm months will probably stiller accordingly. Although figures now forthcoming are distinctly lower than those of a few weeks previouily, they remain on a*remunerative level for senders. Hears very (juiut, and inclined to go lower. Opossum were in small supply, and met with a good demand, the quality being poor, as usual in the hot season. QITOT. vacli. Oiiky Kanuaiioo SKINS A v. Dalgety and Co., Limited. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Wool and Stock Journal — 13 January 1899

Dalgety and Co., Limited. The resumption of Iho wool Bales after the holidays look place on Monday last, 9th inst., anil was followed by auctions on tho threo suc ceeding days. A vory active market prevailed, ami prices ruled in hollers' favour at about 5 pur cunt, above December rates for all kinds of merinos ami fine cro»sbrcds. Medium to good wools bad on the whole the keenest demand, while, on the other baud, coarse qualities in crossbreds continued the least in buyer#' favour. At our opening salo of the year, held on Tuesday hist, we ollured a representative cata logue, principally noticeable for tho excellent selection of scoureds it contained, the offerings in the greasy section being chiefly of a medium class, though there were also some parcels above the average in quality and condition, all of which made good prices. Tho highest price in the grease was O.Jd, secured for a parcel of blaoK wool, marked Nl'B, from Mud gee, well put together, and of excel lent quality and rich...

Winchcombe, Oarson, and Co. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Wool and Stock Journal — 13 January 1899

. Winchcombe, Oarson, and Co. Competition at our to-day's. sale was of the keenest character, and prices were fully on a level with the rather better values which have been luling since the auctions were resumed after the hulidayB. The improvement is mobt marked in the case of medium to good wools j superior wools show the advance least of all. Bulky skirtings and fine crossbredf? are well sought after, and the demand for iho latter is becoming more general. Coarse crossbrcds are very difficult of sale, and such wools as Lincoln and Leicester are now at the lowest priccB known. The catalogue contained a large selection of New England wools, which in many instances were Bkirty in condition. High prices were obtained for a number of lots, notably 9fd for RAW / Glerkness, from Bundarra ; 9Jd for JDMR and JMA, from Wollomombi. Armi dale wools included JTF, at 9$d, and DF, at 9$d, the latter price being aho obtained for .J Steel, from Walclia, and A/-, from Uralla. Many other clips sold ...

Wyly. Trenchard, and Co. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Wool and Stock Journal — 13 January 1899

Wyly. Trenchard, and Co. Public auctions were resumed this week after the Christmas recess, awl on Wednesday we brought forward a catalogue of Gil linlcs, of which we sold 468 under ttic hummer, and shall, no doubt, place the pnssed in lots pri vately, as biddings were within a fraction of owners' ideas. It is a fortynate occurrence that so late in the sea&on us this, a parlictilaily strong demand should set in, thus attbrding an outlet for many reservo-bound lots, as well as for thoso wools which were kept hack in the country through the didie'ulty of getting car riage. All of theso wools, in company with those locally scoured, have now had the ad vantage of rates which have not been oxcebdod at any time this i-eitson, and, as a matter of fact, good pieces and medium greasies are Ad higher than the closing rates of Dccomber, and other sorts about ^d, while soon reds are, on an average, $d better. But whether this feverish spurt is likely to become permanent, or has its sour...
