Thi s is a low estimate, for on many farms the amount of waste is double the sum named. Perhaps the scarcity and high prices of labor in a tew localities may Be consid- ered a reasonable excuse for this loss, but we hold that no man should uuder take more than he can accomplish with out waste. T h e first and most prolific source of waste can readily be traced to Urge farms, as nine out of every ten of our fanner* own or undertake to work twice as much land as they are able to do, with any sort of credit or profit to themselves or others. Jn Spring, more cor*), potatoes and other crops requiring culture during the period of growth, are put in than can be attended to, and the results are that haying and harvesting grain crowd upon the hoeing, and waste occurs on all tides.
