V 1 OCCUPATION TAX. The Views of Business Men arc Interested. Who In order to get the views of the business public relative to the occu pation tax proposition, The Review interviewed all of the business men of the city whom it was possible to find, and gives below tin; result: M. I,. Holbrook: An occupation tax should be resorted to in a small community in its earlies stages of growth only as a last resort. It is a species of double taxation, as practically all business men arc projH'rly owners, and have to pay their just protwrtion of real estate and jK.-rv)iml taxes. However as far as I am concerned I am willing to pay a .small occupation tax If the public needs demand it. It is my opinion though, that the salaries paid city officialsare unwarrantably excessive, and it Is clear to me that business men and tax payers must insist on the cutting down of mu nicipal excuses, before .submitting to excessive taxes in order that city officials may draw large salaries."
