In the New Orleans Times you are reported to have said that there was a bill on the Governor's table await ing his signature; a bill he would sign as soon as the $250,000 was rais-ed to pay him for doing it. _ mudhsontbile Qhind. Barnum Lectures on Temper ance. Lincoln hall was literally packed last night on the occasion of the lec tlure on temperance by P. T. Barnum, of New York. Even the stage was tbronged, and in the aisles and rear I of the hall were hundreds who were a unable to obtain seats. About 8 { o'clock Mr. Barnum appeared on the platform. and was greeted with loud n applause. On being introduced to the audience Mr. Barnum said he supposed a large number were present for the object of gratifying that feeling which is inherent in mankind, and which he had catered to for many years--eurioait3. [Laughter.] All are intei-ested in this subject of tern perance; man in every stage of life is an interested party, and when we say " man," we mean woman also, be cause man embraces woman.
