Old Burning Springs, the Great Oil! Centre of Veit Virginia. p The distance from Parkersburg to Burn-I ing Springs, the noted oil section of thisHt region, is about thirty miles. In dry times. @' when the roads are good, it must be a de-H-i ligbtful three hours' canter, but at presentlp riding or walking is more labor than pleas-Is ure. The turnpike, or ^pike,-*' as peoplelb call such roads here, is in miserable order, but better than it might be. In only one sense is it well worked. A large portion of the season the Little Kanawha is navi^ gable for small stern-wheel steamboats, which are kept busy taking oil down, and freighting merchandise and machinery from Parkersburg to points up the river, ^rven beyond Burning Springs. A company has been organized to make, by means of cats through riffle rocks and dams, the Lit^ tle Kanawha navigable at all seasons of the year. This will be of great benefit to the rapidly increasiag business of this section, which in a year will be five times...
