It closed down last night and the thirty-five men employed must look elsewhere for work. Up to now the work wa9 progressing beautifully, shafts have been sunk to the depth of 1050 feet and numerous tunnels have been driven in different places upon the property. The closing down of the property was a general surprise to the stock holders as they had no knowledge that anything of this kind would take place. at least no information of this charac ter had been divulged by the general offices in Los Angeles. Edmondson and Cavens, there being two more cases discovered at Naco. Dr. Cavens drove over yesterday to further look into the situation, but found no case that seem ed probable to develop. It was found necessary to quarantine the residence of Mrs. Walker to pre vent people from going or coming as William Qulan, who is the last case of which we made mention, was confined there, loDger than bad been expected, owing to the delay in getting a tent up where rases will be taken and treated. Quinn was taken there last night and there are no other cases thus far reported in town. Masquerade Bail a Success. The masquerade ball, given by Mrs. Louise Foster last night was a com plete success. The ball was crowded and at least one hundred couples were present. Some time last evening between the hours of fight and nine o'clock the jewelry store of H. Schmelding on Main street uas entered and several trays of watches and rings were taken. The thief entered the store by a back window and secured the jewelry during the temporary absence of Mr. Scbmeidinc. Tho store was closed early in the evening by Mr. Schmei- ding who left the jewelry trajs in the how case while he proceeded to have a good time in an up town resort. When he returned to the store about 11 p. m. to lock up the tras in the sofe he made the discovery that the , watches and valuable rings were miss-' ing.
