PECULIAR CASE. Balranald, 'Tueday. An important case under the Muni- cipnlities Act occupied the attention of the Police Court yesterday. Alder man John Bye, proprietor of the Riverina Recorder, was proceeded against by John Clark Bowden, late an alderman of the municipality, but whose seat was declared vacant last month for absence without leave for more than three succeeding months. It was proved that the defendant had done printing and had inserted adver- tisements, for which payment had been made, in his paper. The com. plainant, however, failed to prove that anything of tihe kind had been done since 1st November, tihe information being that the defendant had been em- ployed since that date. After a lengthy hearing the case was dismissed, with 10 guineas costs against the in- former.- Age.
