GENERAL NEWS. The position in France remains un changed. The Allies have improved their position on their left wing, but the German centre maintains a strong resistance. The first detachment of Indian troops has landed at Marseilles, and should soon be heard of at the front. The German attack on Antwerp has been'repulsed ,willi: considerable,.loss; to the enemy. ■ ' ■ in East Prussia tho Russians bad a decisive victory at Augnstowe on Saturday, and in Galieia they, are completing the rout of the Austriaiis and preparing to ccoss the Carpa thians. , Mr J. Mocatta, of Tooma, enlisted in a troop of light horse in Sydney, and has gone into traiuing. MtW.I). Whitehead was unable to get a place in a mounted troop, and has returned home.
