DANCING HALL [Newspaper Article] — Weekly News — 10 October 1914

DANCING HALL The application of Mr Charles Craven for permission to extend his building: in Smith street, Yarra ville, was next considered. _ Cr McDonald—Is this hall licen sed ? ^ Cr Johnson—Yes. Cr McDonald-r-What is our position ? . Cr Johnson'—We can do nothing. Cr Pearce—The only-remedy for those opposed to the extension is for them "to oppose the renewal of the license. The music constantly being played must c^use a great nuisance to the resi" dents. He would oppose such a license being granted in future. Cr Pearce—We have power to caneiel the registration. The Mayor—Have the parties no redress. Cr Drew said one of the prin cipal arguments against the exten sion was the music. If the music was removed to the farther side of the hall, it might deaden the sound. Cr Johnson—It might be s...
