WOMEN'S SUFFRAGE. [Newspaper Article] — The Kyabram Union and Rodney Shire Advocate — 24 August 1894

WOMEN'S SUFFRAGE. [liv NRMo.] A great deal has been both written and said on this subject during the last year or more in these colonies, but, the great fault of most people, who read or think about the matter, is to treat it with far too much levity. People range themselves on one side or other, and think of the subject only from their own standpoint, forgetting for the most part, that there is a very great deal to be said on both sides of thequestion. So mniul to be said indeed, that it leaves the patient searcher at, the end of his. work, alnost in as much, if not more per plexity of mind, than lie was in before he coommenced to study the subject carefully, and in an unbiassed miannler. Womslen, there is not the slightest doubt, have as ntlch brain power as men. To argue they have not; either imputes some freak to Danme Nature, which she t h s not shoewn in any of hlerdealings with the lower orders of animal life, or else it casts the reflection on the Creator that Ile formed wom...

TATURA MECHANICS' INSTITUTE AND FREE LIBRARY. It is nearly fifteen years ince the residents of Tatura decided to establish a Mechanics', Institute: The senttered township was beginning to -asesute con crete shape, and not only was a public hallneeded. but a library and a reading room was a much felt want. As usual when the project was mooted the first obstacle was the question of site. Th']'at was a contentious matter; and when it was decided fi rally that' a. Mechanics' Institute should be erected, meetings more or less stormy were hold to secure certain Ideations for the new institution. -Residents in the east end fought against those in the west, the gatherings being held in O'Callaghan's (now Bingham's) tin shed. THE KYABRAM UNION. PUBLISHED EVERY FRIDAY MORNING. FRIDAY, AUGUST 24, 1894. [Newspaper Article] — The Kyabram Union and Rodney Shire Advocate — 24 August 1894

THE KXY'A??AM UNION. PUBLISHED EVERRY FRIDAY MonING,o -0 FRIDAY, AUGUST 24, 1894. IT seems to be fated that each step on the road to civil liberty should be marked with blood. Just a hundred years ago the world witnessed the most terrible human explosion of all time. The French Revolution with thie lesser out bursts which attended it has no counter part for savage butchery and wholesale slaughter. Church and State ii that country were rotten, and in blind fury the populace took upon themselves the work of purification. As might be ex pected under the circumstances, the so called regeneration of the Gallic nation was accompanied by a saturnalia of slaughter, and the good achieved was overwhelmed almost in the sea of iniquity which swept over the land. The Reign of Terror forms a grim chapter in our modern annals, and as history repeats itself we are how, after the lapse of a century, witnessing a second Reign of Terror which seems to threaten the existence of hereditary monarchs.. In...
