WOOL AND SHEEP SHOW SECTIONS [Newspaper Article] — Western Star — 8 April 1949

WOOL AND SHEEP SHOW SECTIONS story of the growth of Australia ft almost a story of the early squatters itnd the development of the wool trade, which has taken mighty strides from the foundation of our flocks which con* sisted of the 26 Spanish Merino* which tossed across in two trans ports from Sooth Africa in 1797. The story of McArthur and the McArthur Stud, which still exists to day is a fascinating one ,and It is interesting; to note the change in the type of meri&o of those days and to not^that the average fleece was 2Xbs. 7oss. It is remarkable that by 1910 there were almost 1,000,000 in the Common wealth and in looking into the history of sheep in this country, we must pay tribute to the splendid men and won lerful women, who by their individual :fforts opened up virgin country and Dvcrcame all difficulties. Dealing with the Wool Section in next month's Boma Show, it will be' noticed from the schedules that there ire 15 classes—12 open and three in the novice. The Nov...
