The Profitable Type [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 December 1910
The Profitable Type Last month I made mention of the Grand Champion carload of barrows selling at a premium above other lots . I wish to call your attention to the fact that this comparison was made with other prize winning and fancy lots that were shown in competition for prizes , and not with the average lots that reach the open market . Then , again , as to their dressing percent : the comparisons were made with the barrows that were selected and fed to enter in the carcass competition—where they must be high dressers to gain recognition . You can see in last month s issue how they stood—the comparisons in both cases in such competition—with the very best that our country is producing . In the October issue I mentioned four Berkshires being shown in 1859 by P . B . Fletcher and that their average weight was 840 pounds , i had the pleasure of meeting Mr . Fletcher again at the late Illinois State Fair . Mr . Fletcher says those hogs were bred from stock he bought in 1855 from John...

Where a $ 2 , 000 Boar Lives . [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 December 1910
Where a $ 2 , 000 Boar Lives . Two thousand dollar boars are not to be found on every farm . When we have an opportunity to see one , we generally take advantage of the opportunity even though it is at considerable inconvenience and often , at . no little expense . On our way home from the Louisiana State Fair , we had the pleasure of paying a visit to our friend J . S . Henderson , at his farm near Kenton , Tenn . It was there that we found Baron Premier 24 th , a $ 2000 . 00 son of Premier Longfellow . Baron Premier 24 th is looking good and is certainly siring not a few excellent Berkshires . Mr . Henderson does not keep a large number of sows , but all that he has are bred in the heighth of fashion , and are mating well with Baron Premier 24 th . Charmer Girl 27 th , a daughter of Baron Premier 24 th , had an exceedingly promising litter by Lee s Artful Premier 12 th , Mr . J . W . Russwurm s Grand Champion boar . It looked to us as though there were several future Champions in ...

Bargains in Iowa . [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 December 1910
Bargains in Iowa . Especial attention is called to the half page ad of MacDonald Bros .. Not a single animal is sold for any fault , but simply because they can spare a few of their best sows and need the money . These sows are daughters of Baron Buke 50 th , Lord Premer s Rival , Masterpiece , Lord Premier , Hopeful Masterpiece 3 d , Baron Premier 22 d , Premier Duke , etc ., etc ., and out of sows of equally good breeding .
