The Citizen. SATURDAY. - - AUGUST 18, 1877. Prosperous Future. The average indications are in favor of a prosperous future for most parts of Arizona. We listen with great care to the many reports as to what is go ing on and what advancement is be ing made, and there seems no doubt but the future of mining, stock-growing and tillage of the soil in Arizona, is encouraging. This is a year of ex cessive drought all over the Pacific Coast, and Southern California espe cially is suffering for want of rain. The Prescott Enterprise, as quoted on our first page, tells the story for Yava pai. But bar ley and wheat crops have been very good and large. The fruit crop in Salt and Gila valleys is above an avarage m quantity and of excellent quality. Here the July hailstorm destroyed much of the fruit, j-et there will be consid...

A gentleman who recently made a1 thorough inspection of this mine, and who has no other interest in it tlnn Ar. izona people generally, obliges us with the following ery important state ment: One remarkable fact concerning this mine, is that it has paid for its own development from the first day it was Btruck. No effort has ever been made to extol its value, and the public have known but little of its working. The principal proprietor. Col. James 11. Barney, satisfied of its licliuess, has not sought notoriety for his mine, but has judiciously and perseveriugly bought to develop and prove it. Shafts have been suuk two hundred and lift' feet in depth ; galleries and drift have been opened for nearly a thousand feet ; the foot and hanging Avails have been found, disclosing a mass of ore of fabu lous richness nearly fifty feet in width, assaying from one hundred and fifty to fifteen thousand dollars per ton....
