Wireless Signal Was Bound From Quebec - for Liverpool. Quebec. The Canadian Pacific liner Empress of Ireland, and the collier Storstad collided in the Gulf of StF .Lawrence thirty miles east of Father Point, and was sinking, but a later .dispatch said the Empress of Ireland sank soon after the collision. 'S. O. S." signals from the Empress brought the first announcement of the collision and the signals of distress were immediately responded to by the Canadian government steamer Eureka and the mail tender Lady Evelyn from Father Point, which put out at once to render aid. Father Point 'kept in communica tion with the Empress of Ireland for a short time, but the responses of the disabled steamer suddenly ceased, which led to fears here that the steam er was in a critical plight. Dawson against the stock yards com pany collecting 75 cents a car switch ing charge for handling live stock. The Santa Fe asserts that it is do ing an entirely intrastate business.
