Public Rostrum [Newspaper Article] — Eagle Rock Sentinel — 25 January 1911

Public Rostrum Department Feature Page of the Eagle Pat h Sentinel Letters to the public will be gladly printed under this heading but the "Sentinel” disclaims any responsibility fur views expressed herein. Personalities and lengthy articles will be elliminated. —(.Editor. Editor Sentinel: It seems to me that steps should he taken to have a post office established in Eagle Rock. That it is badly needed, and that it would be a convenience to every resident of the valley, and especially every business man, is beyond question. The locating of a post office here need not, and would not, interfere in the least with the present delivery system, except that it would lighten to some extent the burden of our effi cieitl but over worked carrier, whose work by reason of the rapid increase of population has increased several hundred per cent in the last two years. We are soon to become a city, and a city without a post office would be about as logical as a cart without a horse. Let ns persuade ...

Glendale High Notes | [Newspaper Article] — Eagle Rock Sentinel — 25 January 1911

Glendale High Notes | By Anna Kathryn Megilligan On Saturday evening the Sophomore girls entertained the Sophomore boys with a part) up in Sycamore Canyon, where one ol the girls lives. A very enjoyable lime is reported. Friday afternoon after school the students were entertained with a trained wolf which said prayer and did all manner of things. After entertaining for quite a while he made his adieu and departed. Sad to relate, Glendale was beaten in basket ball for the first lime in three years on Saturday, when A/u-a beat the home team on the Occidental court. The score was _’4 to 20 in Azusa's favor. Mr. Moysie had been reading vari oils stories by well known authors to the students during the morning assembly. All of the stories have been very good so far and the pupils enjoy them very much. Some of the Junior boys walked sadly into the classroom Monday noon to be greeted by a universal shout. From all outward appearances they had been pretty well used up in a light, but these ...

INSPIRING MEETING OF ARROYO SEGO CHAMBER Of COMMERCE HELD OH MONDAY NIGHT Great Boo&ers’ Organization Has At Heart Welfare of Entire Northeast Sedion BOOST FOR THE LOCUTION OF A UNIVERSITY IN SOUTHLAND [Newspaper Article] — Eagle Rock Sentinel — 1 February 1911

INSPIRING MEETING OF ARROYO SEGO CHAMBER Of COMMERCE HELD OH MONDAY NIGHT Great Boo&ers’ Organization Has At Heart Welfare of Entire Northeast Sedion BOOST FOR THE LOCUTION OF A UNIVERSITY IN SOUTHLAND Last Monday night’s meeting of the Arroyo Seco chamber of commerce witnessed the largest attendance, the greatest interest and the best speaking since the chamber was organized. An inspiration seemed to possess not only the speakers, but the citizens present, for the former were notably enthusiastic and the latter unstinted in their applause. The music, too, was excellent. It was well selected and was rendered with a vim by the M. E. Church orchestra of Highland Park. At the appointed hour President L. A. Phillips of the chamber of commerce called the meeting to order, immediately followm"- which the orchestra played a selection. The president then introduced Hon. Mark Keppel, county superintendent of schools, who, in well chosen words, made one of the most inspiring addre...

UP-TO-DATE SUNDAY SCHOOL Congregational Sunday School Thoroughly Equipped for Efficient Service [Newspaper Article] — Eagle Rock Sentinel — 1 February 1911

UP-TO-DATE SUNDAY SCHOOL Congregational Sunday School Thoroughly Equipped for Efficient Service Among the recommendations made by Rev. Or. Freeman, the new pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Pasadena, as chronicled in a recent issue of the Los Angeles Times, was one in favor of installing the graded system, covering a ten years' Bible course, in the Sunday School. Many Sunday Schools are desiring to en ter upon the graded courses and cannot for lack of administrative abil ily in the direction of the school and proper educational preparation in the teaching force. While other branches of education have made great progress the average Sunday School has to be turned over to the tender mercies of people who. while willing to do what they can, .are utterly unprepared to teach children. The re suit is that pupils learn little or nothing of real value, and the average teacher has only some personal opinions to impart or some individual re ligious experience to relate; the pupil in ...
