BIG SAVING MADE AT SALVAGE YARD [Newspaper Article] — Eagle Rock Advertiser — 2 March 1933
BIG SAVING MADE AT SALVAGE YARD One of the most interesting spots on the vast system of the municipal department of water and power is a salvage lot at the Ducommun street yard. Here is located the clearing house for all kinds of materials, tools and machinery. In this busy workshop nothing that can be salvaged is lost. Replaced machinery from all parts of the system is checked here and transferred to other points as long as it is fit for use. In fact no piece of machinery is ever scrapped or sold, but is kept in use somewhere until the break-down point, it is said. Cast iron pipe is an example. Such pipe is indestructible and never wears out. Cast iron jttpe that has been in use for 90 has been found to be as good at new.
