BEAT THOSE RAM Si Scoutin' Around with ELBERT WHITEHEAD Hello guys and gals! Here's that man again with his weekly imparta- tlon of wisdom and knowledge on ye olde affairs of the world of sports! It seems the boys over in Tiger- town grow pretty rugged! Our Jack- ets had to put out all they had to gain a 7-0 decision last week but they had what it took and so were off to a flying start in the defense of the conference crown. Waxahachie seems to be a jinx or hoodoo or something or other to the Jackets. Two years ago the Jackets Journeyed to the home of the Tigers and were held to a scoreless tie in one of the sloppiest exhibitions that it has ever been my displeasure to participate in. Nothing seemed to go right. Oh well guess it's just "one of those things"! As most people thought the San Marcos tussel turned out to be one of the most Interesting and hard- fought games ever turned out around these hyar parts! The score was 12-7 and was every bit as close as the score indicates. Thos...

DIAL LIGHTS BY NICK NAX President Roosevelt has ordered a probe of the Federal Communications Commission possibly to forestall a like action by the national legislature The F. C. C. for over a year has been a vague shadowy institution that no one understood least of all the commission members. It has been the target for much harsh and largely deserved criticism from political op- ponents of Roosevelt and from appli- cants for licenses. There have been more glaring reversals of examiners reports in the past year than any corresponding length of time in the history of radio. Some months ago an unprecedented wave of licenses were granted to newspaper owned trans- mitters. Complaints were loud and clamorous that the F. C. C. was feath- ering the Democratic n...

41 SPORTS H. P. Defeat Austin College 26-7 j Scoutin' Around with ELBERT WHITEHEAD Did you see our Jackets go to town last Friday night against those Kan- garoos? Boy they really knocked them back on their "rumble seatfl" to copy the expression of one of our .slimes! Without a doubt that touch- down on the opening kick-off took a Tot of the fire out of the Kangaroos but the way the Jackets were blocking and running that night it just wasn't in the books for the Kangaroos to win. In Cameron Harris the Kangaroos have one of the shiftiest and most elusive runners It has been our pleas- ure and almost displeasure to watch. Tune and time again Harris broke Into open fields chiefly through his own efforts In side-stepping and elud- ing our tacklers. In one instance dur- ing the opening minutes of the first quarter Harris was almost gone when Westerf leld managed to fall and catch him literally "by the heels" and bring him down. The little fellow was a con- tinuous threat every minute the ...

There are very few things that the student body of Howard Payne Col- lege starts out In earnest to do that It falls to accomplish. Running that special train to the A. C. C.-H. P. -a Q& SPORTS Scoutin' Around with ' ELBERT WHITEHEAD Last week too late to run In the Yellow Jacket I received a letter from the Williamson Rating System with an explanation as to why the Jackets were rated as they were in the Williamson System. Scores of games over the country are received by Williamson over the United Press and the Associated Press wires. Scores of the games In Texas New Mexico and Oklahoma except the scores of the larger games were not received over these wires and the ratings of the smaller teams had to be made according to the dope available. At the beginning of the season the Jackets were not looked upon as the strong team of the conference being picked by almost everyone to finish well down the list at the end of the season. Williamson had this dope and having no other dope available made his rat- ings and predictions thus. That this explanation is a plausible one Is very easily seen. We appreciate the In- terest shown In the Jackets by the Williamson Sys...

to "THE LADIES STORE" . DIAL LIGHTS BY NICK N AX The probe of the Federal Communi- cations Commission which Nick men- tioned two weeks ago seems to be fizzling out or to be hushed up. Nick hopes that suggestions that commit- tee head Frank McNInch was not doing just enough to prevent sweeping reorganization in the way of reform. John L. Lewis' C. I. O. is now backing the movement for reform for all he is woith. Judging by Lewis' past per- formances his appearance on the in- vestigation scene means that investi- gation is going to help the C. I. O. However it may be his overpowering urge to want to feel important. May- be he wants to organize the commis- sion members. That would be nice.
