IfRS. WICKS ON IDEALS. rvo Leen to a lecture on "Ideald.S Miss Muriel from the Hall came down last week, an' said I was to be sure'n go to a sworry at the church schools, because a friend of hers from London was gobl' to tall, at it. I don't mind confessin' that, when I saw in the papers they give round what the lady was goin' to speak about, I was a bit exercised in my mind to sense her meanin'. GARDEN CITY FOR LUNATICS. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton, Taggerty and Acheron Express — 10 November 1950

GARDEN CITY FOR LUNATICS; At Boedburg, in Germany, a garden city for over two thousand lunatics has ,- • been established. German doctors have recognised that the method of keeping lunatics in asylums is a mistake. The best way to cure them, they say, is to give them as much freedom and open air as peoa sible: The garden city of Bodliurg con. selts of thirty-six largo houses, each capable of accommodating eighty to a hundred patients. A large farm has been established and stocked with cattle and horses. Everything that is necessary for a small town, in fact, is to be found In the newest of garden cities. It has oven got a theatre! The lunatics are freeo to walks about and to amuse themselves just as they like. They willingly work on the farm, and the women cooln as eager. ly and cheerfully for the others as though they were living in their own homes, free front..insanity. The total cost 'r this ideal asylum was £500,000. 9.

FROM VARIOUS SOURCES. ."Look at me," said the fat bullock, "I'm worth £50. I fairly jingle with sovereigns every time I walk. It takes a millionaire to buy me. I can remember whoa I was dog-poor and they hunted me over the ranges with whips. I can feel the savage sting of those thongs yet, but you can't scoe any marks on my glossy hide now, and it's to-day that I'm the beast that's worth the money." "I've been a little bit on the rise myself," said the loaf of pread; and tile butter, which is first cousin to the beef, remarked:' "Oh, I'm very firm. In fact, I'm more of a legend than.a commodity these times. -There's got to be something doing before you get a pound ol me. I'm real hard." "There are other peb bles on the beach," said the packet of tea, acidly; "I'm a little bit. in the boom myself. With a little bit of a duty I'll do the balloon act better thatn any. of you." Annual Show A SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton, Taggerty and Acheron Express — 10 November 1950

Annual Show •A SUCCESSFUL FIXTURE. The annual show organised by the Alexandra Pastoral and Agricultural Association was held at the Show grounds on Saturday last. Although the skies were a little overcast at times and rain threaten ed, the weather was good, consid ering that it rained on the previous day. The arena looked beautiful, a love ly green sward covering the splen didly levelled ground, which could easily be ranked as one of the best in the north-east of Victoria. The exhibits were of good quality, and high comments of same were made by the -judges in the various sections. There was only one cause for la. ment-the cattle sections were not filled to the extent that they might have been. Perhaps a litle re-cast ing of the schedule may rectify this in future, for it may be possible that the cattle raised in the district may hot`. be covered sufficiently. N'1nmerous sideshows were in evi dence-the most that have been seen for very many years. The R.S.L. .operated numerous de vi...
