indOstrial co-part nership. The principal business at a meet ing of the Independent Workers' In dustrial Council, held in Melbourne on Thursday night, presided'over by Mr. H. E. Spencer, was the consideration of reports received'from Great Britain and America dealing with profit-sliar in{j and co-operation. In reporting the outcome of inter national investigations, the general secretary, Mr. J. T. Packer, stated that the system of co-partnership offered a constructive policy for unionism. Co-partnership was a system recom mended to the independent workers to base future worlt upon. Falkiner, the newly elected member for Riverina in the'" House of Representatives, rose to speak on the Address-in Reply, and his maiden effort caus ed quite an impression. In blunt and forcible language, but with perfect composure "and the ut most good nature, he disconcerted the old politicians; and at the same : .time infused into the; debate a re freshing breeziness which is all too rare in the "talk shop," where the platitudes of the professional politician-is the regular fare. His .attitude was uncompromising, and he staggered the opposition by his bold attack upon the coercive tac tics of labor organisation. He was subjected to considerable inter ruption by Labor members, but disposed of his interjectors with, an effectiveness that astonished the House and dismayed his op .ponents.
