ROTARIANS INSTALL NEW PRESIDENT Mr. C. W. (Jeff) Jef ferson, manager of Grace Bros., Parramatta branch, was last week installed as President of Parramatta Rotary Club for the ensu ing year. He succeeds Mr. J. F. Burrows, manager of Murray's Ltd. iIr. Burrows said he was con fident his successor would prove ani able presidenit. "He is held in highest regard within his club, and throughout the various clubs in our area," Mr. Burrows said. Members would look to him for guidance and assistance; and he felt sure they would not be left wanting. Mr. Burrows thanked, officers and members for their.loyalty and co-operation during his own term of office. Responding, Mr. Jefferson thanked the club for the honor it had conferred on him in choos ing him as its president. Presentation of a past presi dent's badge to Mr. Burrows was made by past president Harry Shepherd. MAYOR SLATES PARK COMMITTEE Vandalism at CoIquhoun Park, Granville, was ttindescribable,"v the Mayor of Parramatta (Ald. E. A. Mobbs) said at a City Cdrincil meeting. Granville Kewpies Football Club had drawn attention to the deterioration of the park. "Public property has disap peared from thi park, and no real attempt seems to have been made by the park committee to keep it in order," Alderman MV~obbs said. "I was astounded when I saw the area." Alderman Mobbs said that the park committee had neglected its duty and suggested that legal action be taken to disband the committee. The matter was referred to Granville Ward aldermen, who will submit a report to the next meeting of Council.

FLOOD DAMAGE "OVER £50,000" No council in N.S.W. was in a financial position to restore roads damaged by recent flood rains, the Mayor of Parramatta (Ald. E. A. Mobbs) said at Council meeting. Ald. Mobbs was commenting on a report by the City Engineer (Mr. W. C. Andrews), estimating damage to roads in the area at more than £50,000. Before Council were letters from Mr. W. H. Lamb, M.L.A., Granville, and -Mr. G. C. Gollan, M.L.A., Parramatta, intimating that the Minister for Local Gov ernment (Mr J. Cahill) was pre pared to consider claims for grants to restore roads damaged by flooding. "The departmental policy re stricts claims for damages: to roads arising from flooding of rivers, creeks and watercourses," Mr. Andrews said in his report. "This interpretation virtually eliminates all damages to roads arising from the recent abnormal weather conditions. "As - far as.
