MELBOURNE. March 5th. [Newspaper Article] — The Riverine Grazier — 10 March 1875

: MELBOURNE. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.} March 5tli. The principal political event which I have this week to chronicle is the resignation by Mr F. L. Sinyth of.his seat for Gippsland — an event which has not greatly surprised the public who are in the secret of things as done in tho world of Politics. 'It will bo re membered that, for some months past, a par agraph has been going tho rounds of the papers that a Member-for an important con stituency was about to resign, to assume nn important ofiico uridor Government, and the newsmongers were all on the qui vive as to \ybo it could bo. The secret is out now, and Mr Smyth is tho man who is about to dedi cate his talents to liis country's good. In connection with resignations it must be also borne .in mind that a County Court Judge finds his health failing, and contemplates re tirement from his judicial duti.os to a less important aiid more quiot way of earning ti livelihood, and these two. resignations hap [ienning at a time that. s...

The Conference is of opinion that it is desirable that 'quarantine stations for the admission of sheep from Victoria and Tasmania into New South Wales should be cstablished'withoutdelay atMoama|and Albury, inasmuch as thepresentrestrictions operate most prejudicially to the interests of slicep-owncrs in Riverina, Victoria, and Tasmania, without being ntall necessary on sanitary grounds, because precautions which are now taken against the introduction of disease at the port of Sydney may easily be observed at quarantine stations on the Murrnv. . HILLSTON, .LACHLAN RIVER. (PROM OUR OWN COItr.ESPONDENT.) March 6, 1875. . Since the abundant . rainfall, the country has put on a garment of verdnncy which can, in usual seasons, be only seen on the Lach lan in the months of June and July. In consequence of tho change a great impetus has been given to the back country improve ments in dam-nitiking, fencing, arid every conceivable nlteration that may be needed.
