There were 33 ratepayers present, the proceedings pas. sing off very quietly indeed, only one or two making any effort to state a case against severance. Mr. George Grant, convener of the meet ing. was voted to the chair, and Mr. J. M. Gannon was selected as minute-taker. OUR' SELECTORS : THEIR HOPES, 'GRIEVANCES, AND PROSPECTS. Br AoRIcoLUS, PART II. In undeitaking the self-imposed task of expressing an opinion on the prospects our selectors have before them, I resume my pen with feelings of pleasure mingled with regret-pleasure that, as far as I am able to judge, a prosperous future is in store for many; and regret that, for a certain per centage, I cannot regard the outlook as other than a gloomy one indeed. Those whose prospects I look upon as brightest are such as will be able to "see it out." Some of these are men with sufficient means to wait for the return which must come at some not very distant date; while others are men with no present means, who, however, have worked in such a way as to be now in a position to obtain sufficient in come to keep moving along. For those selectors who now find themselves without means or source of income the deepest feel ings of sympathy must be felt by all who know anything of the difficulties with which the...

THE DARNUM RESERVE. [Newspaper Article] — Warragul Guardian and Buln Buln and Narracan Shire Advocate — 26 May 1881

TIHE DARNIUMI RESERVE. BY SELE?TOR' This reserve was thrown open for selec tion on Fr:day last at 9 a.m., and attracted a large number of persons in the immediate vicinity, as also those resident more distant. Full particulars as to allotments, Sections and areas, have already appeared in your columns, and I take upon myself to describe the end of the fun. On the morning in question I arose early, and having partaken of a good breakfast, made a start for the .scene of operations. Coming into the street I found that several were already on the more (I forgot to mention that several had gone the night previous, and that on look. ing out of my window at 5 in the morning, I observed two men and a woman, with an umbrellaover her head trudging along with undoubted determination depicted on their Jaces to be the firston the ground.) I made tracks for the railway line, this being the easiest way of reaching the reserve, and hers I found that a number were stumping along, some with axes; pos...
