THE DUBBO LIBERAL AND JMACQUAWE ADVOCATE. ?annUf, Hay 5. MM. THE Country Towns Water Act; Amendment Bill has passed the third reading in the Legislative Council, ana this fact -will be thankfully receivM by many of the eouutry towns which were unable to meet the instalments of the expenses incurred under the former system, Under the new A.ct the time for the re payment of the cost of construc tion has been extended, in the case of permanent water sup. plies (under whieh heading the local works are classed), to one hundred years, and thus the task of providing the means of redemption has been rendered a more easy one. The bill, though promised, had not been intro duced when the Dubbo Muni cipal Council struck the water zate, and though at the time the amount of the rate was under consideration attention was drawn to the improved position the Council would be placed in should the hundred years term bo adopted by Par liament it was wisely decided that for the first year at least the za...

OUn STDKET LETTER. (Faon OUR OWN CJobbrspotorict.) Sidket, Thursday. When Sir George Dibbs gets on the stump away from the metropolis, he gener ally provides matter for oomment, and his late Bathurat deliverances have proved no exception to that rale. Bis ambiguous statements in reference to the issues at the next election have created much consterna tion in the protectionist camp, fears being entertained by the restrictfonists that the Premier is backing down on the policy which looks to the Cnstoms honse as its prime factor. Sir George has met with severe critism from the protectionist press (with the exception of the protectionist daily) which ridicules his Bathnrst-'aisod " anarohy " bofjey. In consequence of the speeoh in question, the Premier's speech at Dubbo was looked forward to with interest. as likely to explain the rani Meaning of the mysterious utterances at Bathnrst; bat in the interval the Premier apparently thought be had boon premature in his former speech, and his ...
