THE FRIEND OF ALL! HOLLOWAT'S PILLS. Nervous Disorders. WHAT is more fearful than a breaking down, of th» nervous system ? To be excitable or nervous in a small degree is most distressing, for where ean a remedy be found : There is one :—drink but little wine, beer,, or spirits, or far better, none ; take no coffee,—weak tea being preferable; get all the fresh, air you can; take three or four Fills every night; eat plenty of solidMfe avoiding the use of slops; and if these glorious rules followed, you will be happy in mind and strong in bodyr and forget you have any nerves. ENGLISH ITEMS. [Newspaper Article] — The Bega Gazette and Eden District or Southern Coast Advertiser — 22 June 1867

English Items. (From the Herald's Home Letter.) The efforts to bring to trial the late Governor of Jamaica have failed. Lieutenant J3rand and Colonel Nelson yielded to their trial, and the Grand Jury ignored the bill. Mr. Eyre, still delicient of moral courage, slinks away into Shropshire aud submits to an examination before a Bench of country Justices, who not only decline the responsibility of sending him to trial, but give him proof of their ,personal favcur. It is possible tliat no fuithcr efforts may be made to punish the chief actors of the bloody scene of illegal punishment in Morant Bay, and indeed it is not needed, for the majesty of British law has been sufficiently vindicated without the assent of grand jurors and country Solons. After the speech of Loid Chief Justice Cock burn, there will be no more resort to martial law by colonial Governors—no more uiockey of justice and defiance of all regulation by harsh and brutal administrators. Hearing that charge myself, 1 could ...

DISEASES IN WHEAT. [Newspaper Article] — The Bega Gazette and Eden District or Southern Coast Advertiser — 22 June 1867

DISEASES IN WHEAT. f From the Melbourne Argus). The third prize South Australian essay on the disease\x=req-\ of wheat has now been published, and is certainly short,, but very much to the point. The- writer, Mr. W. Ey,. says that, after carefully-conducted observations and microscope and analysis, id that the "take-all" is\x=req-\ as they have been called, . straw and stopping the cning the plant so overspreads the-roots and tripping the stems of the plants\x=req-\ symptoms of the disease, the straw is black. The dark colour first appears under the thin outer skin, and advances all through the thickness of the straw as the disease extends. On detaching a small portion of the dark skin and placing it under a microscope, it presents the appearance of being covered with a very fine moss in which are coiled up a number of animalcules, in form like vibrones, showing no signs of life ; however, within half an hour from the time of adding a drop of water the animalcules began to move abou...

DEATH OF ARTEMUS WARD. [Newspaper Article] — The Bega Gazette and Eden District or Southern Coast Advertiser — 29 June 1867

' DEATH OF ARTEMUS WAED. ♦ The well-known American humorist, Artemus Ward, whose real name was Charles Brown, died at Southampton on the 5th March. The extreme delicacy of his constitution was evident to all his newly-formed acquaintance from the first day of his arrival among them; but latterly the audience who crowded to hear his quaint and playful lecture at the Egyptian\x=req-\ hall must have felt that the peculiarly original entertainer was making them laugh in spite of a melancholy certainty that he would not long retain > the power of appearing daily on the l ' little stage to explain the details of I th&iiafr9rama that was rather worse ^"^than panoramas generally are. One Saturday morning's performance, at which an extraordinary crowd of notable personages gathered, as though by somesad and silent determination • -'^•iake- farewell of their favourite; pirovedthe last. ORIGINAL POETRY. AT REST. [Newspaper Article] — The Bega Gazette and Eden District or Southern Coast Advertiser — 29 June 1867

ORIGINAL POETRY. AT REST. Awakened by some fearful dream My little one arose, And gazing "wildly roupd the room, Sank b&ck beneath the clothes And pressed her hands upon her eyes As if to keep them close. X turned to see what ailed the child— What caused her to awoke, And all her look was very wild, And all her'frame did shake ; And then she sobbed and wept aloud As though her heart would break. With gentle and endearing words I tried to soothe her grief And calm t&e fears that made her weep, And tremble like a leaf; But words of mine were all in vain, They would not bring relief. Until within mv folded arms X held her to my breast, When vanished all ber late alarms, And soon she sank to rest, And the sobbing of her little heart Ceased to be expressed. There resting on my breast she such A calm expression bore, Tou Bcarce would think a little heart Nigh breaking just before; She felt secure within my arms, And asked for nothing more. oh; how often in our lives Are we...

THE GREAT CU&E A££! KNOWN THROUHOUT THE WORL1X. HOLLOWAY'S OINTMENT. Jlad Legs, Bad Breasts, Sores and. Ulcers. ALL description of sores are remedied by the proper anc diligent use of this inestimable\x=req-\ preparation. To. attempt to cure bad legs by plastering the edges of the wound together is a folly for should the skin unite, a boggy diseased condition remains uuderneath. to break out with tenfold fury in a few days. The only rational and successful treatment, as indicated by nature, is to reduce the inflammation in and about the wound and to soothe the neighbouring parts by rubbing in plenty of the Ointment as salt is forced into meat. This will cause the malignant humours to be drained off from the hard, swollen, and discoloured parts ronnd the wound, sore or ulcer, and when these humours are removed, the wounds themselves will soon heal; warm bread and water poultices applied over the\x=req-\ affected parts, after the Ointment has been rubbed in, will soothe and so...
