CORRESPONDENCE. (From our own Correspondents.) GLADSTONE. August 25. This evening a very interesting lecture was delivered in the Institute Hall by Dr. Jaa. Walter Smith, upon 'Natal and the Zulus.' The learned lecturer- havine resided for some lengin oi tune in maiai, gave a very graphic description of its physical features. Showing tke difficulties of transit on- account of its abrupt terrace like, ascents from the eastern aide towards the interior 5 also of its rather unhealthy climate and Indited resources . But perhaps tha most interesting parts of the lecture wen his description of the Zulus, and th» account of their manners and customs, also his recital of the principal circumstances which led to the complications resulting in tbe present war. Clapp then read a paper on ' Farming' treating their proper order the present methods of ploughing, pn]ver:z*tion of the different soils, how and when to bow, the advantages of rolling, the probate causes and bow to prevent emut in wheat. The paper showed that Mr. Clapp hod given the various Bubjects treated of, much s-udy, and coming as it did from a well-known practical farsior made it doubly interesting. Perhaps the best feature being thst the ideas advanced were original and acquired by personal experience and observation. General Neva. There, has been a gallant rescue cfone of two drowning men, named Herse and Brown, on Lake Mae inane.
