j CYANIDERS AND MINERS. Mr Thus. Howes1, general president of the F.M.E.A., addressed .'t meeting of miners and cyanide employes in the A.N .A. 1-lall, Maryborough. In the course of a lengthy address, last ing upwards of two hours, Mr Howes dealt with the conditions of labor in the collieries of the old country in years gone by, when women and children of tender years were com pelled to work underground for a mere pittance. Step by step Mr Howes led up to the different comli i tions prevailing at the present lime, for which, he said, unionism was the chief factor in securing the improved conditions. .Dealing with the cyanide workers, Mr Howes: urged them 1/3 join the Miners' Union, as only by this means could they come before the Arbitration Court in order to secure belter conditions. A revision of the special jury list was conducted at llie local court yesterday before His Worship the Mayor (Cr Parker) and Crs Den sein and King, J's.P. On. the ap plication of Mr Morris, clerk of courts and acting sheriff, the name of Mr David Russell, of Clenlyon, was .removed from the list. Mr Morris explained that Mr Russell had been excused by the judges on two occasions recently on account: of deafness, and it was desirable' !under those Circumstances that he. be released of further duties on a jury Four youths were summoned by Area-officer Dettmann to appear at the local court yesterday. The clerk of courts explained that the informant' would not be present and desired an adjournment for a week.
