Gloomy Picture ot South Africa.. Mr. M. B.' "Wil ton, formerly of Wollongonjr, but who is in South Africa, in, writing to a friend at Wollongong, gives a gloomy account of things over there. 'The place is now at its worst., hundreds of tradesmen ■being, out of work. All the plasterers- being out on. strike at Durban and at Pietermaritz burg, and there is some talk of them going out at Johannes burg. The cause, of the strike ;is that employers are, trying to reduce wages.' He states that Johannesburg is overstocked with rogues. ■ The goals are so full that prisoners • had to be Benb down the line ■ to make room for more coming in. At night time it was not safe to go out for fear' of-'being sand bagged.
