A large amount of interest ws t&Jten in the election in the M annum sub-division of Murray on Saturday, -The town had been visited by all the candidates, and in addition two meat-1 ipgs bad beep held In connection with the local option referendum, so that electors had drst-hand knowledge of the views of all parties. Polling started early and the officials at- the booth were kept busy for most ot the day, and a large vote was recorded, The number of voters in the sub division who exercised their right to vote was, 1,893, out of a total of 1,687 on the roll.

ROWING. The Manuuru 8-oar crew which has been selected to represent the State in the contest for the King's Cup, to be rowed at Hobart next month, has started preparations for tho event. The crew expects to leave tor Tas mania about the 24th inst. Members of the club and the crew especially take strong exception to the adverse comments of an Adelaide daily, through. Its rowing writer, in connection with the erews refusal to re-row the test race on the Sunday morning, and a strong protest from the crew has been sent to the daily in question. The writer referred to states that when the Renmark crew swamped the committee thereupon declared the event "no race" and ordered a redrew on the Sunday morn ing. Maunum in 'the meantime took no notice and rowed over the course. The crew did not stop because it knew nothing of the decision of the committee. FOOTBALL CLUB AND AGRICUL TURAL SOCIETY. At the invitation of the ground com- \ mittee of the Mount Barker Agricul- j tural Society, several prominent mem- j hers of the Mount Barker Football I Club' visited the showgrounds on! Thursday attemoon Jast for the pur pose of inspecting the area and to as certain its suitability for football. Fears were entertained- that the en closure was not large enough, but measurements disclosed the fact that by making one or two alterations to the ring fence there would be ample room. The surface of the ground was the next consideration, and it was found that by a little filling in in places and grading off in others, that a tolerably level surface would result, without interfering at all with the drainage. It was staled that after the levelling had been done, it was the intention to plant the whole area with couch* grass. MOUNT BARKER BOYS' CLUB.; CLUB HOUSE NEARLY READY. The von Doussa Club House (or the Mouut Barker Boys' Club is now almost ready for occupation. The building, which is constructed of wood and iron on a corner of Dunn Park, near the Barker Memorial, is a flue structure, and when painted will be a most attractive-looking building, The floor space is SO feet x 30 feet', and the ceiling is 16 feet from the ground level. The present inten tions are to have a tan bark .floor, the funds not allowing of a wooden one. That is to tome later.
