BRISBANE AFFAIRS. FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT. June 11. [Newspaper Article] — The Western Champion — 23 June 1880

BRISBANE AFFAIRS. noU OVB SPECIAL OOBBBfiPONDKHT. J tin a 11. THE affaire Bwanwick, as the French would say, is finished, and from beginning to end it hBs reflected no credit on anyone concerned# The judge baa been consistently undignified throughout. He has made the whole flff&ir into a sort of personal offence, and after threatening from ten to forty yeara imprison ment has let the offender out after three weeks. And he made it a condition that young S wan wick should be kept away from the court or its precincts until after hie brother's cam should be finally settled. Swanwick the elder has appealed against the decision on the ground that the verdict *K against evidence. A plea-tanter topio is the Governor's ball. Bell did the thing in grand, I may almost say royal, style. There was no shortness of sup plies. The Queensland Governor fed the hungry-and I may add, that in respect to some of the ladies, he did not tarn the naked away. I bear that provision was made for 700, a...

Of course Marathon has been installed as first favorite for eveiy thing, though we do not believe it is anything like possible for him to pull off the double event. Sporting Notes from the Metropolis. FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT. BRISBANE, June 8. [Newspaper Article] — The Western Champion — 23 June 1880

Sporting Notes from the Metropolis. PROM OtTB SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT. UBIBBAtfE, June 8. THE Ipswich races took place on the 6th, last Saturday, and a very nice little day's sport it was, I have not seen so many people on the Ipswich course for a good while, and everyone seemed to thoroughly interest them selves in the racing. The pace made by Sunset in this race was tremendous for a mile and ...
