A Few Sows For Sale Mr . W . K . Pickens , Livingston , Ala ., secured in my last sale a sow bred to Rival s Champion . He considers this sow one of the best purchases he ever made , and has already sold part of the litter for more than the sow cost . He will keep the gilts out of this litter for brood sows in his own herd . This is not an unusual experience , and what Mr . Pickens has done , others can do . I have a few extra good sows bred to Rival s Champion that I am offering at very reasonable prices . Rivals Champion is a Grand Champion son of Lord Premiers Rival out of a daughter of Premier Longfellow and Duchess 279 th , the two Grand Champions at St . Louis . I paid $ 1200 . 00 for him at the late Kinloch Farm Dispersal sale and believe it was the best purchase I ever made . If you want the , very best at extremely reasonable prices , write S . C . McCoun , Danville , Ind . S . C . McCOUN Danville , - Indiana Berkshire Pigs $ 20 Each . Sired by a son of the famous Masterpie...

American Berkshire Congress Meeting , [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 December 1910

American Berkshire Congress Meeting , The Berkshire world , Springfield , 111 . Gentlemen : —There seems to be a lack of knowledge among the breeders of Berkshires that there exists among them an organization whose object is to mates * the breed of Berkshire swine mbre widely anl generally known ; to discuss ways and means of having the Berkshire more generally used by the farmer and feeder , and to work for , the mutual welfare of all the breeders of the Berkshire hog . Such an organization exists , however , and , although national in its scope , its membership is much smaller than some state organizations among the breeders of other breeds of swine . Why it is that the breeders do not take more interest , I am unable to say . We all recognize the fact that in organization and co-operation there is strength yet but eighty-five breeders of Berkshire swine in the United States have joined the Congress . This small company , of breeders have shown their faith in organization an 1 are...

Another Good Boar on Brookhaven Farm . Brookhaven Farm . Nashville , Tenn . The Berkshire World , Springfield , 111 . Just a note to tell you that I have bought the boir Premier Baron C . S . 119521 from S . C . McCoun , Danville , Ind ., advertised in the last Berkshire World . Mr . M . W . Blair of Guthrie , Ky ., had told me of seeing this boar in Indiana and that he looked at several of his litters and he regarded him as one of the best breeders in the country , and he thought the boar was a good show prospect for next year . We have been reserving a lot of good daughters of Lee s Artful Premier 107644 , Grand Champion of 1909 , and winner again this season of Grand Champion at the Tennessee State Fair Association , and needed a second boar to cross these daughters . We also have a magnificent son of Handsome Lee . Brookhaven Farm also purchased all the brood sows , gilts and young things owned by Fatten Whittaker & Son of Columbia , Tenn ., numbering some twenty-nin...

$ 65 . 00 Buys a Good One It is not often that Berkshire breeders have an opportunity to purchase fashionably bred gilts with quality and bred to an outstanding ., son of Masterpiece at the low price of $ 65 . 00 . That is just what W . W . Burns , Salem , Ohio , is offering in this issue . These sows are daughters of Longfellow Premier C , and- out of the noted brood sow Star Masterpiece s Belle 4 th , a daughter of Star Masterpiece and Lees Artful Belle 62 d , the dam of Prof . C . These sows Will . be bred to Master H .
