AUTO DRIVING. Auto driving when indulged in a con servative sense will arouse no resent ment from the public, but when the driv ing exceeds the reasonable limit, it will then lead to the intervention of law. SChamp : Letter 0 [Bpecial Washington Letter.] A LITTLE leaven leaveneth the whole lump. Yea. verily. When Jefferson's Declaration of Independence was read at Philadelphia on July 4. 1771t, it was a Uttle leaven of liberty placed in the human heart which has been workin: -ts wondrous works from that day to this and which will continue to work until there is no sort of government save representative government in any civilized country. Of course the Rus sian douma Is having a tough time getting itself started, but so had the English parliament, the French assemn bly and the rest. The douma, however. will find its way to stand. Cossacks may dissolve it and ride it down a few times, but that douma will be there finally doing the people's work, and the bloody Cossacks will be eating gamely out of its hand. The latest suggestion as to extending the repre sentative form of government in Eu rope Is for a Balkan federation to be formed at first of Roumania, Bulgaria and Servia, with Prince ...

THE ENTERPRISE ON SANDERS. Mr. J. Y. Sanders is making an ag gressive campaign for Governor of this State, and the man that beats him will have to stand up and knock him out, as there is no humbuggery in is tactics. He has simply gone in to win, with a club, if necessary, but to win anyway. There is much to admire in the man, as he is as bold in execution as he is wise in planning. In fact. he is a politician right up to the handle ready to meet any emergency, any man or any condition of affairs. There is a strong cimbination of papers and politicians to promote his ambition, but whether it will win or not remains...

The Nation and The Railroads. IT has been noticed of late that the men prominent in large corporations have been humming a different tune from that which was pop ular among them not long since. The bur den of their song is now co-operation be SP SONTS. tween public serv ices and public au thorities instead of the old refrain of the public be blankety blanked. It has become popular among railroad, oil and other magnates to travel to Wash ington to see the president and ask him to "let up" on the corporation:. Every man who has seen the chief magistrate of the nation on such a mis sion has been quoted afterward as Ta voring a better understanding between the large corporations and the national and state governments and the substi tution of co-operation for mutual sus picion and hostility. It Is a far cry from the attitude of that railroad pre.: ident who in the coal strike of 190"_ earned for himself the title of "Divine --gbt Baer" to the meek and concilia tory position of the railro...
