A nged wltk Burning Oil Horror Added to Horror Victims Reg to le Shot A Fatal Open Switch One of the most terrible of modern railroad accidents occurred at Alton Junction, III., on January 2ist Some 22 persons were killed, and nearly 100 more or less seriously injured. An open switch on the Big Four main track was the .pause of the disaster. The Southwestern limited ran through the switch into the freight train standing on the siding, and Engineer Webb Ross, of the limited, was instantly killed. The wreck toak fire, and while a great crowd was watching the spectacle an oil tank car exploded with terrific force, en veloping the spectators in a sheet of burn ing oil. Nine of them were Instantly killed.and scores were frightfully burned, a dozen of whom afterward died in the TELEGRAPHIC BRIEFS. It...
