THURSDAY MORNING, MARCH 7, 1850 Our i nnrt». [Newspaper Article] — Daily Alta California — 7 March 1850

THURSDAY MORNING, MARCH 7, 1850 Our i nnrt». We have hciml a pood many complaint* from diver* parties relative ■'■• the manner in which causes nave been tried in the court* in this city rind of the curious decisions which have been made by the presiding judges. We hope that the time has arrived when the practice of the law enforced in other states will be adopted in our court*. In all roses where it in prncticaMe the right of trial by jury fhftitld l>c afforded, for it i.« one of tin' dearest perogntives of freemen, is the only resource against oppression and injustice and ifcirnarrl against arbitrary, illegal and corrupt decions from the bench. Such nro the allegations we have heard, but if ourselves we nothing know The lawn, as we ha...

MR. GILBERT'S CORRESPONDENCE A< »t i «■>, Mexico, Jan. 13, 1850. The steamer Oregon reached this port last creninp, nnd having confidently anticipated meeting the Panama here, we were quite shocked to lcnm UiAt she ieft here three days ngo, Everybody has been on shore to-day. The weather, which has l>een gradually becoming more furnacc-likc, bus here reached a very respectable degree of heat, which is scarcely agreeable to those who have dwelt a long time In the bracing climate of Sun Francisco. Consequently light clothing is in groat demand, and the brilliancy of the sun-shine has sensibly affected market for " Panama hats." I suppose this is the most perfect harbor in the world. It is completely land-locked, the water is fathoms deep to within a few feet of the shore, and it is capacious enough for thousands of vessels, because it is so ijuiet that they could lay aMe by side without the slightest possibility of danger. Probably on the whole Pncific...
