I Methodist S. S. Notes. By F. H. Hitchcock, Supt. All teachers present; all ofti cers but one, and a total attend anee of 170 last Sunday, was very good for such a muddy time. It was the tirst service of the new conference year; the new super intendent was in charge and the new pastor offered the opening prayer. We hope for a better year than we have ever had ami that our school may be more efti cient, and grow spiritually as well as numerically. We wan' to "go forward" in ail depart- ments. Our progress depends very largely upon the teachers; the superintendent is a very small part of the machinery, but it is on the teachers that the heaviest responsibility rests. We are for- tunate in having such a faithful corps of teachers. Next Sunday the appointment of teachers for the conference year will be made. The committee on Christmas exercises had their tirst meeting with the children Sunday after- noon. They will meet again next Sunday afternoon and all the children who wish to take ...

L OUR RURAL STAFF Cooks Point. After reading the lecture of Peter Radford as published in the last issue of the Ledger, learning the number of ladies of the south that have to work on farms, I was surprised. That was news to me, it made me feel indignant. I guess I felt about like the Irishman felt, when he heard a preacher tell his congre- gation that the Jews crucified Christ, he got very mad, and as soon as the congregation was dismissed, the Irishman rushed down the sidewalk, and the first Jew he met, he commenced to pelt him with his fisc. The Jew ask him what he ment; the Irish man told him that you Jews cru citied Christ. The Jew said they did not, that was an old story that was told about two thousand years ago, the Irishman said ii did not matter as to that, he had never heard it umill that morn- ing. If Peter Radford, or any- body else \ill point out the man or men that tirst started th custom of ladies wording on a farm, I will be before, and after whipping him or them, a...
