Piersoo Hardware and Furniture K 3 SCHOOSINO YOURS That the slaughter of the birds bv gun clubs and other city in- stitutions has brought about un- told damage to the farmers in the destruction caused by the in- sects that have increased in the ratio to the destruction of their enemies the birds, all men of sound sense and experience, will admit at once. Nature provides for keeping up an equiliberum in all her work, and to prevent an undue increase of destructive in- sects it provied various kinds of birds who fattened upon the various and sundry varieties of the pests. For instance the plover, that man takes such a de- light in slaughtering, does not eat grain at all, but seeks its food from among the insects and worms that are to be found upon their favorite feeding grounds. The plover being destroyed, the result is that the insects an...

THE CROP AND THE PRICE OUTLOOK The crop outlook has been greatly exaggerated and the prospect now is far from prom- ising. The rain that fell in July was only sufficient to give the cotton a good start and the con- tinued dry weather with the very hot winds have parched the cotton and caused it to shed until now the outlook for an average yield is very gloomy indeed. On many farms it will take from five to ten acres per bale. In some fields the cotton is nearly all open and if present conditions continue, the cotton yield in Texas will fall below the last year's crop. The crop reports have been given out and the manipulations on the New York Cotton Ex- change has caused prices to fall daily until now the prediction is made that cotton will reach the ^ ten cent mark. This condition calls for vigorous action upon the part of the National U...
