Northern Territory Times. PALMERSTON: SATURDAY, OCT. 31, 1874. [Newspaper Article] — Northern Territory Times and Gazette — 31 October 1874

JtoUflup i^rritorg §inm Palmerston: Saturday, Oct. 31, 1874. Overlanders are getting- more and more into difficulties. First Lautour became separated from Mr. Nation, who afterwards died ; and then there was a doubt about whether any of j Lautour's cattle would be saved. But now we hear that they are all right at some place near the Katherine ; though Lautour himself has been called away to go in search of another overlander, Mr. Cox, who has sepa rated himself from his party in much the same way as Nation did from Lautour and the others ; though not, we hope, with the probability of any- thing like the same result. It appears that Lautour and the two men who are taking care of his cattle were recently joined at their camp by a man named McPhee and another man from Cox's party. These overtook Lautour about 70 miles from the Katherine, and reported that when Mr. Cox and his party were at the Limmen Bight River they thought they were at the Roper, and one of | his men (the cook) was s...

COUNTRY CORRESPONDENCE. STAPLETON. (From a Correspondent.) October 27. [Newspaper Article] — Northern Territory Times and Gazette — 31 October 1874

COUNTRY COMESPOIDEECE. STAPLETON. (Prom ti Correspondent.) October 27. The first delivery of the machinery and the arrival of the Engineer for Virginia is effected, and a whole caravan of drays are on their way here with battery, engine, &c. We may therefore look forward to the cheering time when Mr. Barlow will give us the first sleepless night by the noise of his stampers. Our population is increasing fast. Three months ago we were two solitary men on the flat; now we can number between 20 and 30 resi- dents, and this number will be aug- mented in a month or two to double our present number. The Virginia Company's new shaft now down to water on the western lode looks well. The stone has shown gold freely from the surface, and at its present depth the reef is showing heavier gold than when nearer the surface. By the time the steam is up there will be stone enough to produce a nice little bank- ing account, which will admit of the shareholders closing their purses and drawin...

Nervousness, Debility, Loss of Power, Sperma- torrhoea, Indiscretions of Early Youth Syphi- litic Diseases. In all the above cases, " arising from errors and the yielding to the passions." no time should be lost to at once arrest the progress of disease. DR. L. L. SMITH HAS devoted himself for twenty years in the colony to the practice of this branch of his profession, while previously, in England, he was the pupil of and practised with the celebrated Dr. R. T. Culverwell, the only medical practitioner who ever exclusively adopted the as the sole branch of his profession. Dr. L. L. Smith hereby informs the public that " he is the only legally-qualified medical man in this speciality of his profession ;" that all others advertising are unqualified, and that, therefore, in pretending to be qualified are obtaining money under false pretences. Dr. L. L. Smith also warns the public against the quackeries advertised. If the taker of any of these advertised nostrums escape with his life, o...

TELEGRAMS. SOUTH AUSTRALIA. ADELAIDE, October 30. [Newspaper Article] — Northern Territory Times and Gazette — 31 October 1874

TELEGRAMS. SOUTH AUSTRALIA. Adelaide, October 30. The Parliamentary Session will close next week. A grand reception is being or- ganised for Forrest the West Aus- tralian explorer. VICTORIA. Melbourne, October 29. Melbourne and Goldsbrough are strong favorites for the Melbourne Cup, which is to be run for on the 5th. We believe that Mr. Plunkett is to be made Chief Warden ; and probably a second Warden will not be appointed at present. We learn that a letter has been received from Mr. W. D. Uhr, who formerly resided here, stating that he will probably start from Queensland with 200 head of cattle for the Northern Territory in March next. From an advertisement in another column it will be seen that a meeting is called by Mr. Mather, for Wednesday next, on the subject of a subscription library together with the establishment of an institute for the town of Palmerston. The Minister for the Northern Territory has authorised the erection of an additional ward to the Palmerston Hospital. ...
