Stanley Post Office. (TO THE EDITOR). [Newspaper Article] — Wellington Times and Agricultural and Mining Gazette — 25 February 1891

Stanley Post Office, (TO THE EDITOR) Sir, — In answer to the letter with refer- ence to the above. I think that a shop in no fit place for a post office. The letter also stated that there are several persons willing to give a medium amount for the purpose of shifting it— I think it is very unfair to other shopkeepers for one to have the post and telegraph for various reasons. I think if the Stanley people had any go ahead in them at all they would club together and see about getting a public post office. I don't see why they should go without one when all other towns along the Coast have one. Hoping that this will be seen into. Yours, etc., TRY HARD. [An alteration in the present arrangement has been promised by Government. We do not think much good can be obtained by continuing a correspondence on the subject ; and we would suggest that any complaints should be sent to the proper authorities in Hobart.— ED.«W.T.']

Stanley Notes. [Newspaper Article] — Wellington Times and Agricultural and Mining Gazette — 25 February 1891

Stanley Notes. I was sorry to see in your last issue a rabid and most uncalled for attack upon our local postmaster and telegraph operator. I have always found him prompt, courteous, and obliging.. The building is an awkward one, but I understand that is about to be remedied : but anyone who complains of the way in which the duties are discharged is hard to please.   We have had a visit from the Minister of Lands and Works. With regard to our harbour works 'somebody has blundered.' The contractor is ready to go on pile driving, but the piles are condemned, and, as yet, there are no others to replace them. What ever remedy may be found for this state of things it will be at the expense of our vote for the works which is already too small. Feb. 21.
