Cape Gooseberry Pulp. The Minister for Agriculture was questioned on Tuesday- j with reference to the trial ship- | meut of Cape gooseberry pulp j sent to En eland bv the steamer i Damascus, and he stated that j no word of it had yet been re ceived. ; The purchasers of the Sydney consignment have made inquiries as to whether the; Government intend to take the: matter up again this 3'ear. They were highly pleased with the qualit}' of the pulp, which \vas superior to joiything pre viously handled. This high quality was secured h}' the de partment insisting on only the best selected fruit. Mr. Deu haiiisaicl, however, that nothing would be done by his depart ment next season. ~By the action already taken they have shown what can be done, and now. it remains for the people interested- to follow up the example.

TO THE EDITOR. [Newspaper Article] — Chronicle and North Coast Advertiser — 29 January 1904

To THE:Kl)ITOR. Cir,— It is pleasing' tki notice the interest takt-.by the present Govern ment ;.n the sertleine'ntSs west of the N. C. Line, including the BlackaU iange. as evidenced by Minister j }eniiam'5 yis.it to that locality, and he glowing jiccount he gives as to ts richness jand future prospects. kTet he ad mite that these prospects rannot be jrealized until belter neans of communication are estab ished to thoae places. In his re jort in the i' Courier ' the only iolution that gentleman proposes 'or the problem is that the already ! Dver-burdenejd . settler shall help i limself, which he acknowledges ! le is trying to do already. He next nolds out the* cold comfort that a Government jloan might be justifi ible under the circumstances, but :hat any help beyond that might not be looked for under present circumstances, and the reason for withholding that assistance is that the increased j value of land, or, as he calls it, the unearned increment and consequent prosperity would...

TO THE EDITOR. [Newspaper Article] — Chronicle and North Coast Advertiser — 29 January 1904

To THE I2DITOR. Sir,— As a ratepayer .of the Shire ol Caboolture I was ivery much dis appointed at reading the last report of its meeting, that1; japparently not if .word was mentidned reErardmer noxious weeds. This matter, unless dealt with promptly! will yet make both members and: residents of the Xorth Coast repent iheir inactivity j when it is too late, and 'the mischief done. The humidity of our moun tainous coast climate, with its rich and in places almobt inaccessible scrublands, will make the noogoora burr tlie greatest aijd worst curse we have to contend with. It will simply be impossible for us to get rid of it, and burr infested land — well, it becomes valueless, and wo'rse. The writer, though not troubled himself with tie pest, lias repeatedly pulled up; odd specimens on his holding, carried there no doubt by marsupials^ or stock from the neighbours. It is juo use mincing matters and saying tihat only a few places yet have tiiisj burr, as the writer has seen it ' lately ...
