ALBION PARK v. PYREE [Newspaper Article] — Kiama Independent — 3 September 1947

ALBION PARK v. PYREE The result of the Albion Park v. Pyree match came rather as a sur prise as most football followers ex pected Albion Park to win. , The Park would have had an easy victory if their goal kickers could have kick ed even a fraction of the 11 goals which were missed during the game. Both fullbacks, Lucas of Pyree and W. McBarron of Albion Park, gave good displays. In the forward div ision Coulthart and Byron were the pick for Pyree whilst the liest for Albion Park were R. Harris and E. Dunster. Play in the first half Was rather poor and Albion Park ran up 9 points in fairly quick succession. B. Raf tery opened the scoring for the Park when he.broke away and scored a solo try. Sooni after he repeated the performance to use his weight to score. E. Tomlins picked up at half way and side-stepped two opponents to race down the sideline to score in the corner. B. Raftery missed two of the kicks and L. Doyle the third. Shortly before half-time A. KIAMA v. BERRY [Newspaper Article] — Kiama Independent — 3 September 1947

KIAMA v. BERRY SBerry completely outclassed Kiama to defeat them 12 to 7. Kiama greatly missed Frank King's leadership and too frequently open ed kicking duels to be forced into errors with a loss of territory. On the few occasions when Kiama elected to run with the ball they made much ground and. only deadly tackling kept them out. ' Jim Gannon, playing lock forward for Kiama, gave an excellent display both, in defence and attack but lack ed support. ' From the kick-off Berry took play to IKiama's 25 and K. McDonell mis sed a shot at goal' and soon after -missed another froim a similar posi tion. Berry came on the atn;ck and from a penalty A. Watss kicked a goal. When Berry c.harged dclown a kick by Ray Stead the forwards toed through and R. Bowden raced on fast to gather and dive over in the Scorner. A. Watts missed the kick. A. Pepper opened a lovely move when he received a kick at half-way tnd dodging five tacklers raced hard for the line and when tackled passed oR Stead: to F. ...
