m. - Our Wool Report. j 1 Thursday, Noon, 1 S 25th June, 1896. Very little news of local interest can be chronicled regarding the wool market, as the past week has again been very dull. A good demand rules privately for anything available, ?arV»ir-Vi Vinwoi/Ar ia li mi f.pri r»wino* f.n 5 the sma'l arrivals, and the ab=ence of jwool from local scourers, who have been having a bad time of it in getting ^jtheir wool dried on account of the in clement weather. A satisfactory clearance has been made during the week, consisting of three lines which sold as follow : — JMGH, 29 bales super combing, at 17|d, 20 super clothiug 16fd, and ''.JHREl 100 bales combing at 15|d per jjb. They are reported to have been jiaxcellent in the ' get up,' evidence )f which we have in the prices realised, and were treated at Messrs. jWright and Abbott's Lakeside Works, Botany, in the usual good style of that firm. Pastoralists' Defence Fund. TO THE EDITOR "S. S. AND S. JOURNAL." [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Stock and Station Journal — 26 June 1896

Pastoral ists' Defence Fund. TO THE EDITOR ' S. S. AND S. JOURNAL.' Sir. — Be the Diseased Meat Act and the late prosecutions under it, I desire to address you a few words. In your issue of 6th inst, you give particulars of a meeting of the Single ton jn.a.15., at wnicn 1 reminded cne members that on a previous occasion I had mentioned the above subject and stated Mr. A A. Dangar would give £10. With your permission I would like to place this matter in its proper light; I enclose Mr. Dangar's letter in which he makes the offer alluded to, but you will observe that it is a con ditional one. and with this and my own offer of £-\ Is before them, my board declined to take any action in the matter on two separate occasions. Since then I have seen Mr. Dangar and he thinks with me that before con tributing to any fund we would like to know what individual owners of con demned stcck have done towards re couping their agents for the loss and trouble they were put to in defending their cases....

Ticks. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Stock and Station Journal — 26 June 1896

Ticks. . [The following letter has been banded to us for publication, as it is practically a reply to a letter that appealed previously in our columns. — ' Ed. 'S.S. andS.J.']:— [copy.] R. Morison Stewart, Esq. Dear Sir, — Yours of January 22nd long since to band, I intended / to answer it by sending down some ticks on the native cats' skins in spirits, but, unfortunately, there were no ticks on the few cats (four or five) I have killed since then, undoubtedly showing that the cold season is unfavourable to tick development. I am the more sorry for this, because I could see no difference between the ticks on the cats and those on the cattle in the Northern Territory, S A., only those were somewhat larger. I cannot subscribe to all that Mr. N. Byrne puts forward in the ' Sydney Stock and Station Journal ' of the 16th inst. I was over in Palmerston when the working bullocks j were landed, and if they died I think j it was from the knocking about they got on landing. One died on the be...

The Delegates' Conference. TO THE EDITOR "S. S. AND S. JOURNAL." [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Stock and Station Journal — 26 June 1896

The Delegates' Con ference. TO THE EDITOR ' S. S. AND S. JOURNAL.' Sib, — As a meeting of Pastures and Stock Board delegates is to be held in Sydney, with a view to form a head board, I would like you to place before the delegates assembled the necessity for altering the time and mode of electing and nominating directors of sheep and large stock, with a view to have each district properly repre sented, and I would suggest that the nomination paper be attached at the foot of the annual assessment return, which must be in the hands of the secretary before the 31st December, and the proxy paper be sent out attached to the form after the levy is struck, and it be filled in and signed when the assessment is paid. By this means a thoroughly representative vote could I e given without any expense. The qualifications for large stock director should also be altered, making the minimum numbers of large stock in his charge greatly less. Trusting this suggestion will be worth the consideration ...

THE AMALGAMATION OF THE BOARDS. [Newspaper Article] — The Sydney Stock and Station Journal — 30 June 1896

THE AMALGAMATION OP THE BOARDS. The large number of delegates who are coming to the Conference next Monday night shows how the idea of anial gcimation has taken hold of the country. As we go to press 49 delegates' names have been sent in and, to those who understand the difficulties, that is simply enormous. There are 64 boards in the country exercising a kind of pastoral local government. These boards are elected by the stock owners and have power to levy rates in the districts for the destruction of noxious animals and for such other purposes as may be deemed desirable. The men who sit on these boards are the chosen representatives of the stockowners and the names of the dele gates show that they are men worthy of all consideratien. They represent the wool and stock of New South Wales and the wool and stock are the backbone of the country. Take the work of the stockowners out of New South Wales and what would be left to us? The 64 boards had no voico in fram ing the ' Diseased Ani...
