Williams River A. and H. Association. EIGHTH ANNUAL SHOW. [Newspaper Article] — Dungog Chronicle : Durham and Gloucester Advertiser — 4 May 1894

Williams River A. and H. Association. . EIGHTH ANNUAL SHOW. The morning of Wednesday was gloomy, and foreboding enough to re press the enthusiasm of the Commit tee of the above Association, and to drive them to dispair. As our readers know, elaborate praparationBliad been made for the annual exhibition, neither trouble nor money having been spared to make all arrangements satisfactory and complete, so that when there was every appearance of another wet show it can* easily be understood that their hearts were in their boots. However, old Sol struggled hard to dispel the hovering rain clouds, and as the day j wore on, it was gratifying to see that ho was triumphant. At 12 oclock noon, ' the President, Mr. J. K. Mackay, called upon Mr. II. II. Brown, the moniber for the dis trict to formally open the show. Mr. Brown who was met with chsers, con gratulated the society on the success which its operations had attained. There were 2200 entries, nearly GOO in excess of last year, which wa^ ...

THURSDAY. [Newspaper Article] — Dungog Chronicle : Durham and Gloucester Advertiser — 4 May 1894

I THURSDAY. The second day was gloriously fine, and the attendance was vary large, the programme of events was carried out promptly and creditably by the Ste wards, and the public were'kept well amused. On Wednesday, £37' lis was taken at the gate and grand-stand; and on Thursday, £75 10s was' netted, There were the usual complement of side shows on the ground, and the Dungog Brass Band enlivened tho proceedings with some good music. The Judges and Stewards'dinner was prepared each day by Mr Wilkerson very creditably. The judging throughout was very satisfactory; and we heard very few signs of dissatisfaction. The jumping, trotting, pony jump ing and trotting was undoubtedly a good draw. Abbott's well know horse Kocket was awarded the bide ribbon for the big jump, but on a protest be ing entered by R. W. Alison he was disqualified for having won two of the Association's prizes in succession. It is estimated that there were nearly 3000 people on the ground. Judges. The following is a...
