C R I C K E T M A T C H -------*------- MANSFIELD V. ALEXANDRA.;   On Monday last, the 15th inst, there was a general holiday in the township of Mans field, on account of the visit of the Alexandra Cricketers to compete with those of that place. The Alexandra club, after encounter ing several mishaps on the road, were very cordially met at Maindample by some of the chief promoters of the Mansfield Club,, with whom they travelled the remainder of the .way,. The early morning of the day of .the match foretold that a very hot day was to follow.. The wickets were pitched at half past nine, the choice of innings -being won by the captain of the Alexandra team (Mr Anderson), who chose to put his' opponents in first. The Mansfield Club soon succumbed to the really good bowling of Messrs James and Dowd; and to this advantage on the Alexandra side may, to a great extent, be attributed the successful issue of' the day's sport. Subjoined is the score : - -M A N S F I E L D, FIRST ...

WOOD'S POINT. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra Times — 19 November 1869

WOOD'S POINT. (From our own Correspondent.) Law and scandal seem to be the pre dominaut wish of some of our townspeople. reor tie last month there is nothing - but turmoil in the minds of some inhabitants of this borougb, who are eternally plotting and scheming, and who not only make thelm selves unhappy, but other ;people v-ho would wish to be clear of such contemptiblel con conduct, I may say that a great deal-ili not all-ofr the disgraceful state of things has been caused by the conduct of a gentle man holding it high position in this place The person implicated has so far demeaned himself, as to collect evidence (If evidence it is), which is the basis of this unhappy state otf things.
