THE LOST DIAMONDS. ADAPTED FROM THE FRENCH. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra and Yea Standard, Gobur, Thornton and Acheron Express — 14 December 1878

THBE LOST DIAMONDS. ADAPTED PROM THE FRENCH. WHAT brought Stephen blarvady and Eugene Grailles together as friends. and in the first place? They were as different as two men possibly could be. Marvardy. one of the very few diamondqcutters in London, was a tall, big-boned, steady, stupid Wallooc, whose Spanish name had nothing in common with his evident Flenibh blood. t On the other hand, Eugene Grailles was a little dried-up Frenchmaun, not ' balf the weight of the other; and whereas, the Fleming., when ho spoke, forcibly flung back his head, and threw wide his arms, M. Greilles, under similar circumstances, abhrugged no his little shoulders, shook his sharp-looking head on one side, and screwed hitosell into a knot, while a droll, weak voice squeaked its remarks in the tones almost of a baby. Yet they were fast friends, and -because they had something in common, which was nothing more than a love of liberty, that strange yearning on the part of the oppressed people of Europe which ...
