The Lectures. The appearance of-Mr». E. Oases ' Smith before the Wellslidro' public as a lecturer, and the crowded houses which she drew for three consecutive evenings, may be considered as one of the mont signal triumphs of a liberal and progressive spirit over ihot intolerant, and generally dogmatical spirit colled Custom, ever wilnewcd, pevlmps, in this geclion of country. Mrs. Smith not only creuled a favorable Op inion or her abilities as il lcclnrcr, but also & high, and we think just, appreciation of her excellence as a woman. As a lecturer, our people speak of her in terms of high praise. As a woman, everybody is delighted with her. And we are certain thai a higher estimate is already being m upon the nubility of a true Womanhood, than previous to her advent here. It is ascertained that n woman may bo a public Uciurer and still nol be a " bold, bad woman.'' And-furthermore , tbat % strung-minded woman isn't sacu a fright as eome folks imagine. Two grooecies were served thus. The women then proceeded to the village tjvern, and compelled Moses, the landlord, to give up his illicit traffic in ihe contraband article—threatening to-serve him as they had the fiber groceries. He promised to-accede to the wishes of the ladies. The chief heroine was Osmund Smith's wife. The women will - be , brought before the Court; but there can be nothing ' done in them, aa they ha...
