Were it not for the question of rccontruction the Congress of the United States with its present representation, composed as it is of every element of meanness would soon founder for the want of mate, rial for agitation and dissension. But as the country is unhappily divided, there is a deep interest manifested in the actiou of Congress, aud thousauds assemble to hear the haraugues of fanatics upon tins important question. Yankee Bondage. The followiDg remarkable and threatening article against Netr England selfishness is from the Pittsburg Commercial, a high protectionist and Radical reconstruction organ. It furnishes the first muttering of a storm that has long been brewing, and cannot come too soon. Tho Commercial says : The unpatriotic selfishness of some of the New England Representatives in Con. gres3 is somewhat trying, and cannot but result sooner or lather to their ovrn damage. The protective system, -comparatively inadequate and shifting though it has teen, has created the prosperity of the cv Englaud States; and now tint they are growing somewhat confident in their position, Pome of their Representatives are constantly on the alert to secure special advantages for special brandies of industry in which themselves or their neighbors are interested. For such a purpose they frequently show themselves ready toaban din protection aa a principle. A glaring instance is found in the proposition to d...
