Untitled [Newspaper Article] — Western Rural and Livestock Weekly — 9 April 1896
By EDGAR , U . vM £ ^ At « We are Ten Travelers . There is the Merry Traveler , the Morose Traveler , the Clerical Traveler , the Gipsy Traveler , the Chronic Traveler , , the Casual Traveler , the Student Traveler , the Aimless Traveler , the Commercial Traveler , the Vagabond Traveler . How we came to know each other is no matter . We meet at times at my own apartments in a quaint , old inn , beside a cavernous fireplace , into which countless now sightless eyes have for centuries peered , and in a pleasant way we re-live our pilgrimings , or recount those romances of others which have touched our hearts and tarried there . We are so much one that when my guests have departed I sit here by the old fireplace , where friendly voices and presences linger , and set down as best I may the pleasan...

ALLEGiEi FUN [Newspaper Article] — Western Rural and Livestock Weekly — 9 April 1896
ALLEGiEi FUN A TRICK ON THE FLEAS , All persons who have lived in . a house which has become infested with fleas in summer will know how these creatures inhabit the floor by preference , and tiow they will jump . . upon the legs and ankles of every one who passes hear them . Taking advantage of this fact , some years ago when the lower floor of McGraw hall of Cornell University was badly infested with fleas , which had come from animals temporarily kept there in confinement , Prof . S . H . Gage invented the following ingenious plan . He had the janitor put on a pair of rubber boots , and then tied sheets of fly paper with the sticky side outward , around the legs of the boots . The janitor was then to patrol the lower floors for several hours a day . The result was - gratifying and rather surprising . The sheets of fly paper soon became black with-fleas and had to be changed at intervals , but by this means the building was almost completely rid of the pest , with a minimum of trou...

\ : ; .- 1-A ; BENbVATION .- i- ^ ^ - ^ V 1 HAVE made a discovery—at least it seems like ¦ oneto- me—and • although some housekeepers may know all about it , I am sure there are others who do not , and for their benefit I want to give my experience ^ My kitcnen _ and dining room were very shabby and I had waited so long for the means to have them renovated , that I was discouraged and decided to try it myself ; I made some kalsomine , using onefourth pound of glue to ten pounds Of Paris white . I added water till the . right consistency was reached , then tinted with Diamond dyes . I always dissolve the dyes in hot water , then strain and bottle for use .
