Dick Kullen Looks At [Newspaper Article] — Hoya — 5 May 1960

Dick Kullen Looks At Just as life itself will pass you by if you stand still , LIFE magazine may have passed you by during the recent Easter vacation . In order to let you know what you missed if you didn t see LIFE over the vacation , and in order to remind those of you who did see these issues of some of their special features , the people at LIFE asked me to re-cap these last three issues for vrm in this week s column . So let s take it from the top . . . THE ISSUE OF APRIL 18 The cover story for the first of these three issues brings you one more of those exclusive LIFE picture stories , this time of the elopement , marriage , and honeymoon of Mrs . Andrei Porumbeanu , whom you may know better by her maiden name of Gamble Benedict . A truly romantic end to a story which had earlier captured America s heart , but I m afraid we re going to have to cancel one more heiress from our lists , fellows . The news for this week had a more serious side , and LIFE shows you that Copley Hall...

That s the kind where the psychoanalyst doesnt say anything to you , and we ourselves are very interested in it because of its advertising possibilities . With the non-directive approach , we d just try to think you into smoking L > M s . We wouldnt have to tell you about how L & M , with its Miracle Tip , pure white inside , pure white outside , has found the secret that unlocks flavor in a filter cigarette . And about how this means fine tobaccos can be blended not to suit a filter but to suit your taste Following the non-directive approach , we d simply show you the package . / DILL VHIIX I SPORTS EWTOR For the past three years , Dick Razzetti has been the keystone of Georgetown s varsity tennis teams . Dick s wide open , aggressive game gives him the appearance of a titan on the court , yet at the same time his finely polished form provides a balance that the opposition finds difficult to over ¬ come . A native of Old Westbury , Long Island , Razzetti hopes to take a shot at the amateur tennis tour after graduation from Georgetown . Last September , he was honored with an invitation to the National Championships at Forest Hills , New York , placing him in a bracket with the top 126 male players in the world . Due primarily to the fact that his blistering service and net game were giving him trouble , Dick bowed out in a tough four set , first round match . With his varsity playing- career quickly coming to a close Razzetti can look back upon a great three year span here at the Hilltop and now , with his game at its highest peak , he can look ahead to po...

Hoya Diamondmen Register Triumph Over Loyola , 3-1 [Newspaper Article] — Hoya — 5 May 1960

Hoya Diamondmen Register Triumph Over Loyola , 3-1 by Dave Bickers With a large number of fathers in the stands on Father-Son Weekend , the Hoya baseball team copped its second victory of the season with a 3-1 decision over Loyola on windswept Kehoe field , last Saturday afternoon . The score was tied going into the seventh inning when Jim Schwab lifted a booming triple over the leftfielder s head to score Johnny Bowers who had singled . This proved to be the winning margin but Joe Di Mare singled sharply to left center to provide an insurance tally . Barranco Claims Win The starting and winning pitcher for the Hoyas was Sal Barranco who was relieved in the eighth inning by Steve McDonald . Barranco pitched quite well until the latter stages of the game when he appeared to tire , and so McDonald was brought in from the bullpen to finish the game . Sal s season record now stands at 1 and 3 . Saturday s win over Loyola was the first for the Hoyas since they defeated Bucknell on the Mo...

Golfers Take Losing Record Into EIGA [Newspaper Article] — Hoya — 5 May 1960

Golfers Take Losing Record Into EIGA by Al Hibbert Georgetowns young linksmen , playing top flight golf against some of the finest competition in the South , have found it tough going in running up a 2-5 record . The Hoyas have been receiving consistently fine efforts from a top duo of Mark Stuart and Bob Gilmartin , who have been scoring in the seventies , but at the same time have been matched against some very fine individual strokers from some of the South s better golf schools . Ed Krovitz , whose 75 against Maryland was a losing effort , has shown much potential as the Hoya s third man . Backing up this trio are a pair of hard hitting sophomores , Dan Linkins and John Valiulis ; Linkins had a cool 76 against a very tough Duke team , and Valiulis , although he has played in only three matches has shown that he can score in the low seventies also . The Hoyas opened their late sea ¬ son by splitting a triangular match with Maryland and Penn State , bowing to the Terps by a 13-5 c...
