John E . GPaeff . BORN NOVEMBER 30 , 1 S 20—DIED NOVEMBER 18 , 18 9 8 . Pennsylvania College mourns the loss of a good friend in the death of Mr . John E . Graeff , President of the Board of Trustees of the College . The devotion of Mr . Graeff to our College is shown in his liberal gifts of money , in his free use of valuable time in work for the College , in his wise counsels and in his active interest in all matters concerning the welfare of the Institution . The history of the College cannot be written without including Mr . Graeff among those who have been prominent in counsel and labor for her progress . While not attempting at this time a complete sketch of the life of our deceased friend , nor enumerating all the diversified range of his interests , it is proper to here record some of the more prominent ways in which he worked for the Master . Born in Pincgrove , Schuylkill county . Pa ., he attended the home schools and subsequently entered Pennsylvania College fiom which h...

NEXT Monday moining the Gymnasium will be formally opened foi regular and _systematic work by the students . Without repcatinp what every one has long since known in regard to the great importance of physical exeicise to students , and the usual sad results when this 1 1 entiicly neglected , we wish to call attention to the fact that there is nol enough _legulat and systematic practice among the students . We earnestly believe that if the long winter months were carefully utilized in thorough gymnastic tiaining , by the general student body , our athletic teams would not have the difficulty they now do , in seeming well equipped men . Moie men would be prepared for the different positions . There is no reason why dining the winter a large amount of good mateiia _) should not be developed for athletic purposes . One reason why it is not done seems to be a disposition on the part of many , to regard woik in the Gymnasium as a sort of farce . It must be admitted that the benefit derive...
