it': i COST OP THE STRIKE. The Ensrlish Amalgamated Society of Engineers Giving' .Figures. Some idea of the extraordinrry drain upon the resources of organized labor that has been caused by the prolonged strike and lockout of the engineers and a' lied trades of England, is afforded in a private letter received in New York from one of the leading officials of the Amalgamated Society of Engineers aid who is a member of the strike finance committee. When hostilities wer in augurated the engineers society had in its exchequer gilt-edged secur'ties-a-ep-reaentinir without premium or interest, an investment of $1.800, (MX). This has no shrunk to a half million dollars of which, however, $300,000 belongs to the tick and funeral benefit branch and cannot be touched for strike purposes. There are 60,000 members of the socle ty who have not been affected by the dispute and these have contributed one dollar each per week, making a total of $00,000 weekly, ,or $1,500 000 since the commencement ...
