CITY AND COUNTY OFFICIAL PAPER. SUNDAY NOV, --, MT4 "Amiihkk Big Urab" -What the Express grabbed from the ring as the wages of the slanderer. The ring's evening slanderer com plains that the Herald calls it "a small sheet." Well, what it lacks in size it makes up in the number and magnitudo of its falsehoods. Home psoplt —erlbe tbe Incoherence i>i tic HsK4i.li to lis editor's lout; residence in Stockton. —JBnpfWS, That's very good. Some people ascribe the venality of the Express to the fact that the knaves are not all in San tjuentin. Yesterday Mr. BEAUDRY, Mr. WOLFSKII_ and Mr. Masoarei. went on the city's bonds for eight thousand dollars. Cannot tho Express find something criminal in this on the part of Mr. BEAUDRY. He is a mem ber of the City Council and there may be some trick in his assuming this re sponsibility. Won't the little hire ling please nose it out. The Vallejo Chronicle of Tuesday contains the following: A few moments before going to Btess the sad intelligence reached our ear-; of the death of Col. Pan] K. Hubbs, who breathed his last at his residence in Vallejo, at almost 2 o'clock p. m. The shock to his many friends created by tiie news, was sudden, for scarcely an hour before he was walking the street, to all appearances as bale and hearty as over before. A little more than half an hour before his death he was taken with sickness, and his son, Mr. Charles H., went for Dr. Vallejo. When lie arrived the Colonel was in sensible. A medicine Mas adminis tered which aroused him, and when ihe doctor asked the dying man if he recognised him he replied "yes." He then sunk away, and in a few minutes closed his eyes, and like one going to sleep he passed away to the Spirit I,and. The deceased was 78 years of age at the time of his death. CITY AND COUNTY OFFICIAL PAPER. WEDNESDAY NOV. 25, 1574. A lust Tribute. In Urn agricultural column of the Sacramento J.'ecord of last Sat unlay we find a just tribute to tlie press of Southern California. Tho prturcss r>f our section of the State is more largely due to the steadfast, untiring labor of its newspaper editors than to all other causes Combined. The It cordxnys: "There is one portion oi" the State at least, in which tho local papers appre ciate their mission, and where they liave been pursuing that mission with zeal and effectiveness for the last three or four years, and that portion of tho State is now receiving the benefits of these efforts. Tho State is now re ceiving an influx of from 0.000 to 7,000 of the very host classes of immigration per mouth —farmers, mechanics and skilled laborers, and much the larger portion of these immigrants are going right through the Northern and cen tral parts of the State, scarcely turn ing their eyes to the rigid or left, so inte...

It appears to the people of this city as if the "strikers" of the ring were availing themselves of the libcler's pol icy. The Ityrcss thinks that not to im agine the possibility of Tiffany's election is to admit that the moral sense of Los Angeles does not prepon derate. Our little cotcmporary has made a mistake and inserted "moral sense" where it should have written "gas and water companies." Thf. firpress yells for Tiffany, but avoids all allusion to or attempt at apology for that gentleman's going into the country with the Grand Jury of which he was Foreman and a bucket of whitewash to whiten the Water Company's reservoir—a job as far out of his duty as his neglect to notice the complaints against the houses of ill fame was within it.
